Why do hollows wear masks

We all need to be able to feel, even heartbreaks and painful memories. They are all there to help the moments of joy feel that much greater, as without that, we are empty. This is explored with two members of Espada, both Starrk and Ulquiorra desperately trying to understand humanity in their own ways.

While their heart may be the source of their power, is it worth the lack of feeling? A greater strength was touched on, but not some of the powers they can gain from that strength. One that even lower level hollows have is the ability to regenerate.

This comes in handy when you're stuck in a world where you could be someone else's meal at any moment. It's what helps many gain strength as well, giving them the ability to recoup from battles at a faster rate.

Surprisingly, so many of the Espada chose to give this talent up in favor of more raw power, especially when you consider Ulquiorra's ranking. This is a culmination of a few items on this list, and the largest reason why being a hollow would suck. We've touched on the act of losing your heart and how that becomes your mask already.

The true horror lies in the process before that. As you change, you're chained to an area, trapped in between being hollow and being a spirit. You are what's known as a Jibakurei or demi-hollow, a being forced to remain in the same spot for months at a time until the process of becoming a hollow is over.

That's an excessively long time to undergo what is no doubt an immense amount of pain. Anthony Mazzuca is an avid gamer, anime watcher, and all-around nerd for nearly his entire life. But if one of the hollows inside that Gillian has a strong enough will, it can take over the entire being, and reclaim its individuality.

This hollow morphs the Gillian into a new, unique form. For example, Grimmjow as a hollow met a squad of Gillians in the Hueco Mundo desert, and they were all unique individuals: Shawlong, D. Roy, Edorad and the rest. But they can evolve even further, and the most ambitious hollows know it. A Gillian may continue eating hollows, and it has every reason to: if it eats enough, then it may morph into an Adjuchas, the middle class of Menos Grande.

These beings are physically smaller than Gillians and much stronger, and they tend to be smarter, too. Grimmjow is the poster boy for the Adjuchas class: a nimble, vicious panther hollow that can take on Gillians many times its size.

Nah bro. Ulquiorra was perfect. He delivered as an arrancar and his fixation was good. Grimmjow was just a dude with a grudge. Perfect my ass, the dude had no personality, was boring as watching paint dry and the only real hint of character he gets comes right before he dies in a pathetic attempt to make me give a damn.

It failed. Grimmjow actually has a personality and is entertaining to read. Not to mention Grimmjow's fight with Ichigo was a legitimate, back and forth, highlight of the series while Ulquiorra's fight was as boring as he was.

As I do not disagree completely with you on regard towards Ulquiorra's personality. He was semented as a final boss in the arc from the begining. Grimmjow was thrown in there as a obstacle and his place can be filled by Fisher even better. Yes but Ulquiorra's complete lack of personality means that he could easily be replaced by basically anyone in his role.

Grand Fisher is the guy who killed Ichigo's mother, it would be much more appropriate to have him as the final battle at least for the Hueco Mundo section , as opposed to a mere obstacle. He would make more sense in Ulquiorra's role than in Grimmjow's. Not necessarily as Ulquiorra was there to make Origins grow as a character.

Also let's be honest. Grimmjow amounted to nothing. I think you mean Orihime and he didn't, Orihime didn't receive any note-worthy growth from that arc. Certainly nothing that would be worth keeping Ulquiorra around for in favor of much better characters. Wonderweiss is the only Arrancar that could even be argued to have mattered in the grand scheme of things and even that is debatable since it's clear the Hougyoku would have allowed Aizen to solo the Gotei 13 regardless.

The difference is that Grimmjow is actually entertaining and gives one of the best fights in the series, Ulquiorra achieves neither of these things so I would rather lose him than Grimmjow. Technically it did. Orihimime got enough resolve from then on to get stronger to be able to fight alongside Ichigo and not just be the healer.

Tier Harribel as a Vasto Lorde. They are extremely rare in number, and it is said that their entire number within Hueco Mundo can be counted with the fingers on one's hands. The combat capabilities of a Vasto Lorde are said to be above those of the captains of the Gotei The process for the creation of a Vasto Lorde is unknown.

Like Shinigami, Hollows have a multitude of combat skills and abilities, most of which are usually unique to specific Hollows. The more powerful Hollows, however, have access to a range similar techniques of greater power or use than their own unique skills. Hollows usually acquire energy to power their abilities by devouring souls, but smaller ones can ingest energy from the atmosphere when in realms with a high concentration of spiritual energy, such as Hueco Mundo.
