Why does walden live in charlies house
He had just gotten a divorce from his wife and was so broken up that he tried to commit suicide by drowning himself in the sea. That was how he met Alan and told him of his heartache.
In case you thought the suicide attempt was an impulsive, one-off thing, Walden also later drove so fast and carelessly in his car with Alan next to him that Alan was sure they were going to die. Such reckless behavior indicates Walden was deeply disturbed in his head, to the point of repeatedly trying to end his life. And yet, this clearly deep-seated state of depression was never referred to again, nor was Walden shown getting any kind of professional help to deal with his mental state.
As the seasons progressed, Walden went from being an intelligent but naive tech tycoon to a practical and mature adult. But then he seemed to progress even further into becoming a petty, snippy roommate for Alan who was constantly making belittling remarks and scolding those around him for various reasons.
Much of this character evolution seemed to have nothing to do with who Walden was established as being early on and simply seemed to be an attempt to replicate the kind of sniping that Alan and Charlie used to frequently indulge in, which had been a major source of comedy on the show.
At one point, Walden mentions that he and his now ex-wife had been high school sweethearts. However, at another point in the show, he revealed that Walden had been such a smart student and that he had skipped high school and gone directly to MIT. So when exactly had he met his wife? Had she been in high school while he was at MIT? That doesn't sound like the type of relationship which would result in the deep love Walden harbors for his ex-wife.
Early on, it is indicated that Walden allowed Alan to stay on at the beach house because Walden was unable to function on his own, and needed the steadying influence of Alan. In later seasons, however, Alan and Walden fight constantly and Walden frequently calls out Alan for leeching off him.
Clearly Walden no longer enjoys living with Alan and is actually hampered from settling down with his girlfriend because of Alan's presence. So why is Alan still allowed to stay on with Walden, when the two have only known each other for some months?
Luckily Internet billionaire Walden Schmidt, as handsome and irresistible as Charlie, stumbles in after a 'failed' suicide attempt over a divorce. He buys the place generously offers to put up Alan and Jake 'a month, tops' in exchange for some help.
Berta can't believe her luck her new boss is even richer than Charlie, as undemanding, more handsome and repeatedly naked. Alan discovers the downside: Walden also gets the girls even without trying. Sign In. Jump to: Summaries 2 Synopsis 1.
