Why matthew died in downton abbey

Congratulations Dan Stevens, you ruined everything. I will never get over your death on Downton Abbey. Though I knew Dan Stevens had more or less chosen his own fate and wanted to move on. Dan Stevens ruled in The Guest, by the way. I will never forgive Dan Stevens for leaving Downton Abbey and causing me the hurt of Matthew's death.

Dan gave a lengthy interview to the Telegraph ahead of his exit, and it basically sums up to him wanting to explore other projects. From a personal point of view, I wanted a chance to do other things.

And I think a moment like this is quite unique and presents those opportunities more than ever before. He and his wife, Susie, were also expecting their second child together they now have three: Willow, 9, Aubrey, 7, and Eden, 3.

Many claimed their happy holiday had been ruined by such a terrible tragedy, especially after the character had just welcomed his child with Lady Mary. Viewers in America were similarly stunned only a few weeks later on PBS. Behind the scenes the show had been pulling out all the stops to try to find another way.

Executive producer Gareth Neame felt the harsh exit was the best choice for the character given the circumstances. We will have to mourn Matthew on our own, in our own ways.
